St. Francis Xavier

St. Francis Xavier was born in 1506 in France, and who was ordained in 1537. In 1540, the King of Portugal John III, had asked the Pope for Jesuit Missionaries to spread the faith in his new Indian Possessions. Hence St. Francis Xavier was sent to India and he landed on 6.5.1542 at Goa. Then he reached at cape Commorin in October 1542. While St. Xavier was at Kottar, he averted the invasion of Padagas on the people of Venad which was appreciated by the King, who grew closer to the priest. In recognition of St. Xavier’s Services, the King allotted land to him on which he constructed a Chapel and it was dedicated to “Our Lady”, it is still existing in Kottar.
